has anyone stayed at the hotel club mac marte in alcudia(majorca)?

Q) me,my partner and our 2 young daughters aged 4 and 1 are going on holiday to alcudia, majorca in june and are staying at the club mac marte resort(al inclusive)the sister hotels are jupiter and saturno!has anyone been there?if you have did u enjoy it?what should i expect?

A) Oh dear- you haven't have you? I have to be completely honest with you and say that in all my years as a travel agent, That complex is one of the most complained about I have ever known. I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but the reviews here are very very mixed indeed and not by any means all complimentary. Honestly in 2006, there were no less than 496 complaints to head office out of 607 holidays sold to this accomodation and that was 105 complaints up on the previous year! Those statistics are 100% correct and the reason why I tell you to avoid it. Stats speak for themselves. If you'd been my client first of all, I'd have made sure I knew exactly what your requirements were before I booked you here, because I have to say I've put more people off booking this one than I've ever sent to it. I have actually been there- thank God not to stay in, but I have been to it to check it out twice a year for the last three years and it has in my opinion not gotten any better. The comments are very mixed, but I can tell you from personal experience that the ones who love it are very often the very ones you'd want to avoid when on holiday. You know the kind... usually parents who let their kids run riot while they eat and drink as much as they possibly can at the bar all day. Their kids are not under control, they think that a very basic 3 star hotel by a lake which is infested by mosquitoes is the ultimate in luxury just cos they can get drunk for free whilst they stick their children into the kids clubs and let someone else worry about them. If you like Bingo and stupid slap-stick amateur "entertainment" then it's great! If not, then you'll hate it. Its not that I'm against kids I have 3 of my own but they do know how to behave themselves- I'd say that over half of the kids there were left to run free with no supervision- yeag great for kids to have freedom but not at the expense of others who go on holiday to relax and enjoy themselves- since when did kids have the right to wreck things and ruin it for others? The complex is huge and impersonal- yeah theres a lot going on, but hey you can get that at Butlins for a lot less money. Its sheer size is daunting, it's very very busy especially in June/July/August/September/Oct... and Easter. I'm afraid it's like a Zoo only with people not animals. If thats your kind of thing, then you'll love it. If you're looking for a relaxing family holiday in nice accomodation with good food and a bit of entertainment in the evenings followed by a good nights sleep then you've made a big mistake. The food is at best edible- typical spanish trying to cater for british tastes- chips chips and more chips. That said, the complex has had more than it's fair share of stomach bugs- I'm not surprised, I've seen their kitchens! To get the most out of this you'll have to be prepared to join in all the rabble oops sorry games and animation and stay drunk just like everyone who thinks it's the bees knees! Your little one will be too little for the kids club- he/she will have no chance of any peace for a nap as there are so many people running around- the kids are noisy (I was there on 2nd October last year and in all three hotels there were 1000 KIDS that wasn't even the adults! In high season apparentley there can be 3000 kids for 1000 adults- OMG!!! If you want Butlins abroad then fine, but you've probably paid top money for this and it is simply not good value- I'm sorry your travel agent sold you this- Its a 2-3 star accomodation at best and although its reasonably clean it has seen better days. You'll probably all be in the one tiny room and if you need to fit a cot in there too it will be a struggle. Take plenty of insect repelleant because the mozzies will eat you alive- I'd go as far as to say take nets for nightime as the air-conditioning doesn't always work and kill the insects in your room. Sorry, but fighting creepy crawlie things is not my idea of heaven and not what you'd expect in Majorca- it's not exactly the tropics! If you need help changing this- e-mail me and I can advise. I'm sorry to be so blunt but there are other hotels in Majorca which are so much better than this. Its a lovely island and it's such a shame they haven't knocked this place down! There is just one good thing I will say is that The Marte is definitely LESS BAD than the Jupiter/Saturno! There are some reviews for you here- you can decide whether you want to take your chances- but personally I would not stay there if they paid me! You must read the reviews thoroughly and see if what they say makes it right for you or not. http://www.tripadvisor.com/showuserrevie... http://www.hotelstreet.co.uk/hotels-1052... http://www.realholidayreports.com/report... has anyone stayed at the hotel club mac marte in alcudia(majorca)?

Q) me,my partner and our 2 young daughters aged 4 and 1 are going on holiday to alcudia, majorca in june and are staying at the club mac marte resort(al inclusive)the sister hotels are jupiter and saturno!has anyone been there?if you have did u enjoy it?what should i expect?

A) We had a great time it is fantastic, especially for the children I can not praise it enough. We had no kids with us and wished we had one they were having such a whale of a time.It really is all inclusive tea coffee pop--just help yourselves .The staff were without exception welcoming and good humoured. The place is set in lovely grounds with a big boating lake and open air cinema and theatre. There is a free bus to the beach. We enjoyed it so much we went again ,watching the little ones run free and play all day was great. One or two older people ,who had come on an allocate on arrival basis,(as we did first time --and we are over 60)) found it a bit noisy. It is such a big place I cannot believe they couldn't have found a quiet spot. Some folk have just got to find fault.Occasionally there was some drunkenness but no more than anywhere else I have been.We just laughed and kept clear no bother really.(people over do it at first when they are not used to the all inclusive lark)Of course you have to be quick to get your place for the entertainment but you soon get used to it.The food was superand usually hot,but there again the Spanish do not eat theirs as hot as we do----there are microwaves dotted about if you need them.We are going in Oct with as many of our Grandkids as we can muster.I do hope you enjoy yourselves .The place will be a bit busier than when we went(May)(Oct/Nov).but all the facillities will be open then. Oh dear just read the one from the travel agent----makes anyone who likes the place seem like proper slobs does't it! I just thought we were jolly people ---now i'll have to re evaluate our standing in society! It will be busy and noisy and full of kids and people having a good time which is a what a lot of people want from their holidays. We may have been lucky going at a quieter time but even the one's who moaned a bit over the kids loved it in the end.

Alcudia, Majorca in October? Is it warm enough to swim in the sea?

Q) Or am I best packing a few jumpers, LOL!!

A) I live in Spain and swim in the Med right up to the end of October. I've even swum in the Med in January. If you are from the UK it will feel warmer to you than me because I'm used to high temperatures. Weather should be great during the day but you might need something warm for the evening.

Going to Alcudia Majorca beginning of April. Two Kids and 2 adults. Is there much to do.?

A) Hello there Well done on chosing Alcudia with your family. It will be quieter in April than in the summer months, and you must also be prepared for the weather to be a little more changeable as well as cooler then, but I'm sure you will still have a lovely time. The original old town of Alcudia is 2 miles inland from the coastal development, and it is certainly worth a visit during your stay with parts of the town dating back to around 1300. The Romans made Alcudia the capital of the island. Visitors to the old town today enter the narrow streets through one of the two gates that were constructed, along with the impressive city walls, after the conquest of the island by King Jaime I of Spain. The best way to fully appreciate this side of Alcudia is to take the 2 hour guided walking tour that is organised by the local tourist office every Wednesday starting at noon. The actual port and holiday resort of Alcudia, where most of the hotels and tourist developments have taken place over the last 40 years, lies at the western end of the magnificent Bay of Alcudia, which runs for over 8km through Playa de Muro and onto the resort of C'an Picafort in the east. Many of the tour operators now conveniently refer to the hotels of Playa de Muro as being in Alcudia, however, the resort is quite remote and some considerable distance from the centre of Alcudia. Being the newer development, Playa de Muro does have a far higher proportion of 4 and 5 star hotels and aparthotels than Alcudia. The resort itself is spread either side of the busy C-712 northern coast road, and really lacks a centre or focal point. It may be worth checking on which side of this road your accommodation is situated. For the more adventurous, this road does have a "dedicated" cycle lane running the full 3 mile length of the resort, which on occasions you do have to share with taxis, or other locals who can't be bothered with the formality of using the main road. Bicycle hire is plentiful and relatively cheap throughout the resort, and costs around £4 per person for a days hire. The warm shallow waters of Alcudia Bay make this resort very popular with families with young children, and the beach is without doubt a major attraction with fine, clean sand with a wide variety of water sport and other facilities available to suit all tastes. Whatever part of the beach you choose, you will never be more than a few hundred metres from the nearest beach bar or cafe. One thing that we did unfortunately encounter on our visit is that actually getting around the resort is sometimes very difficult. Buses are often full, especially so on market days, and taxis are almost non-existent when you need one. So be prepared to walk. If however you are determined to use public transport to see more of the surrounding area, the local bus operator Autocares do in all fairness run 11 routes that pass through the town. Whilst no guarantee is given on my behalf as to the accuracy of their timetable it can be found at: www.autocaresmallorca.com Over the past 12 months or so, the local council has visibly spent many millions of Euro, presumably funded by the much hated "tourist tax", in improving the appearance and general upkeep of the public areas of the town, which is something that can only be of a benefit in the long term if visitors return as a result. Alcudia is not a loud resort. Evening entertainment here is mainly hotel based, however, the resort does have a small number of late night bars and nightclubs. But in all fairness, these could never compare either in quantity or volume to the all night clubs in the popular south coast resorts which unashamedly target the very profitable 18 to 30's market. Overall I feel that Alcudia is a good quality mainstream beach resort, which is especially suitable for families. I hope you have a lovely holiday! Good luck!

What is there to do in Alcudia, Majorca??

Q) I have heard it is a quiet town. My boyfriend and i are in our early twenties and are going July this year. What things are there to visit and what is there to do.

A) Alcudia is a very busy resort with a huge beach. Planty of bars etc. Read through some of these to get some more info on the place.

Lagotel Hotel and Apartments, playa de muro/alcudia , Majorca?

Q) has anyone been to this place, we are staying in the apartments self catering for 2 weeks from end of may to beginning of june and would like some reviews of the resort and advice on places to visit while we are there.there are two adults and three teenagers 18,16,16 going.

A) The reviews in general about this accomodation are ok. There are a few minor complaints but you cannot please everyone. I sold this accomodation many times during my 26 years as a travel agent with no real problems and consider it to be one of the better ones in the area especially for families looking for lots of facilities and entertainment on hand. However, the biggest problem here and in all the accomodation in this area is because of their location near the stagnant lake. When you have such a large area of stagnant water like this, it is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and boy this is some breeding ground! Everyone complains about the insects, and you must remember to take plenty of insect repellant and I know this sounds ridiculous but seriously consider investing in mosquito nets to hang above your beds because the little blighters have a feast during the night! I can't remember if theres air-conditioning or not and if there is whether or not you have to pay for it. If it's available even at a cost do consider paying the extra it will kill most of the mozzies if nothing else. There is also a power station nearby which does little for the view it also smells on occasion! Apart from that most people are quite positive about it and it's definitley a whole lot better than the Club Mac complex which is nearby. It is basic. Don't expect much in the way of luxurires but most say it's clean and well maintained. The beach is around 10-15 minutes away which is well worth a visit, but there are 6 swimming pools I think overall so at least you have a choice! That said, there always is the rush for the sunbeds by the pool every morning! Here are some reviews here http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g580312-d285139-r5968776-Hotel_Lagotel-Puerta_de_Alcudia_Majorca_Balearic_Islands.html I hope you have a lovely holiday! All the very best of luck!

Have you ever been to Alcudia in Majorca?

Q) If so, I would like you to tell me what time of the year you went and was it cloudy? If so, how many cloudy days did you experience? I've booked to go the first week in October and one of my friends seems to think that it is always cloudy there...

A) I live in majorca and the weather is the same throught the island. October is normally between 25º to 28º but it all depends on the days you are coming. in the last few days its been cloudy and some rain in the nights, but it should get better soon. Todays weather 75 °F / 24 °C partly cloudy hope that was helpful.
